Baked Boudin Balls

Baked Boudin Balls

Baked Boudin Balls are crispy, golden, bite-sized appetizers that combine the savory, spiced pork and rice filling of traditional Cajun boudin sausage with a crunchy breadcrumb coating. Baked instead of fried, these flavorful treats are perfect for parties, snacks, or game days, offering a healthier yet equally delicious alternative that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb cooked boudin sausage (filling removed)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (regular or gluten-free panko)
  • Cooking spray or oil for baking

Optional Spices for Breading

  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Boudin Filling: Remove the filling from pre-cooked boudin sausages and place it in a mixing bowl. Gently break down the mixture to loosen the rice and pork for easier shaping.
  2. Shape the Boudin Balls: Scoop out about a heaping tablespoon of the filling and roll it firmly into a golf ball-sized sphere. Place each ball on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Set Up the Breading Station: Arrange three shallow bowls containing flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs (seasoned with optional spices if desired) to prepare for coating.
  4. Coat the Boudin Balls: Roll each ball first in flour, then dip into the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the coating adheres well.
  5. Bake Until Crispy: Lightly spray a baking tray with cooking spray and place the coated balls on it. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy on all sides.

Notes

  • Chill the filling before shaping to ease rolling and reduce sticking.
  • Use a cookie scoop for uniform ball sizes to ensure even baking.
  • Press breadcrumbs firmly to create a crispier crust.
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and simplify cleanup.
  • Turn balls halfway through baking for even crispness.
