Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp Mixture

  • Fresh peeled and deveined shrimp, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 egg white

Bread and Toppings

  • 4 slices white bread, crusts removed and cut diagonally into triangles or squares
  • Black sesame seeds, for sprinkling
  • White sesame seeds, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp Mixture: Finely chop the peeled shrimp until they become a coarse paste. In a bowl, combine the shrimp with minced garlic, grated ginger, sliced green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and egg white. Mix thoroughly until well combined and sticky enough to spread.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Remove crusts from the bread slices and cut each slice diagonally into triangles or squares. Lightly toast the bread in the oven for 3 to 5 minutes until slightly crisp but still soft enough to hold the shrimp mixture.
  3. Assemble the Toast: Spread a generous layer of the shrimp mixture evenly over each toasted bread piece, pressing gently to ensure it adheres. Sprinkle black and white sesame seeds on top for extra crunch and visual appeal.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Place the shrimp-covered bread pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the shrimp topping is cooked through and the edges of the bread are golden and crisp.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 1 to 2 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite dipping sauce or a squeeze of fresh lime.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for sweeter flavor and better texture.
  • Mix shrimp just enough to bind; avoid overprocessing to prevent mushiness.
  • Removing bread crusts ensures even baking and better presentation.
  • Maintain the oven temperature at 375°F (190°C) to prevent drying out the toast or undercooking the shrimp.
  • Toast sesame seeds lightly beforehand for an enhanced nutty flavor.
