Ingredients

Scale

Beef Filling

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese blend)
  • Optional: diced jalapeños or hot sauce for spice
  • Optional: pickles, ketchup, or mustard for stuffing

Dough

  • 1 package Pillsbury Crescent Rolls or 1 batch pizza dough (enough to form a large rectangle)

Garlic Butter Glaze

  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • Optional: fresh parsley or chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Filling: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Season with onion powder, salt, and pepper, then drain excess grease. Let the beef cool slightly before mixing in shredded cheese so it melts and binds the filling.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Unroll the dough on a clean surface and gently press seams to form one large rectangle, creating a uniform base for spreading the filling and easy rolling.
  3. Add Beef Mixture and Roll Up: Spread the cheesy beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border on one edge. Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log and seal edges with water or beaten egg to prevent leaking.
  4. Slice and Bake: Cut the rolled dough log into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Brush with Garlic Butter: While baking, melt butter with minced garlic. Right after baking, brush the tops generously with the garlic butter. For extra flavor, brush a second time after a few minutes.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help dough roll smoothly and prevent cracking.
  • Do not overfill the rollups to avoid bursting during baking.
  • Let the beef cool slightly before mixing with cheese to avoid soggy dough.
  • Brush garlic butter twice—once after baking and again after a few minutes—for maximum flavor.
  • Experiment by combining sharp and mild cheeses to enhance richness.
