Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Optional Ingredients

  • Pickles, chopped (to taste)
  • Diced jalapeños or hot sauce (for a spicy kick)
  • Chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach (extra veggies)
  • Alternative cheese such as mozzarella, pepper jack, or Swiss
  • Gluten-free pie crust (for gluten-sensitive diets)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks until fully brown with no pink remaining. Drain excess fat to avoid greasiness, then add finely chopped onions and cook until softened for extra flavor.
  2. Add Seasonings and Condiments: Stir in ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper into the browned beef and onion mixture, blending the flavors to mimic the classic cheeseburger taste.
  3. Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out the pie crust and place it in a greased pie dish. Prick the crust with a fork to prevent bubbles. Optionally, blind bake the crust for 5-7 minutes for a crisper bottom.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Spoon the beef mixture evenly into the pie crust. Top with a generous layer of shredded cheddar cheese, and if desired, sprinkle chopped pickles over the cheese layer.
  5. Bake Until Golden: Bake the pie at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese has melted beautifully. Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing to let the filling set.

Notes

  • Ensure ground beef is cooked thoroughly before assembling to avoid undercooked meat.
  • Drain off excess fat after cooking to keep the pie light and prevent sogginess.
  • Use sharp cheddar cheese for a stronger flavor or mix different cheeses to add complexity.
  • Blind baking the crust for 5-7 minutes helps avoid a soggy bottom layer.
  • Let the pie rest slightly after baking to maintain clean, neat slices when serving.
